Why do we need clinical trials?
Before a substance is available in pharmacies and used to treat patients, it needs to pass efficiency and tolerance trials. This assessment takes place in clinical trials. These processes can take years or even decades and clinical trials must fulfil extensive legal, scientific and ethical requirements. Therefore, the UMG Study Center supports all trials at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Göttingen.
Targeted clinical trials allow scientists to prove whether a new treatment or substance is more effective or has fewer adverse effects than the current treatment. Additionally, they can assess whether a current medication maintains efficiency at a smaller dose, leading to fewer adverse effects. The results to these questions lie in clinical trials and can help to optimize patient treatment.
How can you take part in a clinical trial?
