Central Biobank UMG – Research towards the Future

Research is the key to understanding diseases like cancer and developing new treatments. For this, analysis of human biomaterials like blood, urine, saliva, cells or (cancer) tissue are required.

In cooperation with the Göttingen Comprehensive Cancer Center Göttingen, the Central Biobank of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) collects biomaterials from consenting cancer patients and ensures sample collection and storage according to highest quality standards. Researchers can request samples and their respective data for research projects. The decision concerning the use of biomaterials and their respective data lies with an independent committee formed from researchers, doctors and the ethics committee.

To offer ideal conditions for scientific clinical trials and research projects, the Central Biobank at UMG closely cooperates with Hannover Unified Biobank and their numerous services. Researchers receive professional support from the planning stages of their project to biomaterial storage and data management to sample release. Biomaterials in the Central Biobank at UMG are stored in barcoded sample containers, allowing seamless documentation of sample location and other quality data.
