DPC 2026 in Freiburg

From 5th to 7th March 2026, the 45th Annual Meeting of the German Pancreas Club (DPC) took place in the beautiful city of Freiburg. CRU5002 was represented by a large group of scientists of all career stages.

The conference began with workshops, such as an Introduction to Grant Writing, which was particularly appreciated by early-career researchers.

The conference itself opened with a talk session on pancreatic cancer, featuring inspiring presentations by researchers from across Germany, followed by a poster session showcasing successful contributions from Göttingen and the CRU5002.

This year, the DPC offered a panel discussion on career planning, which was aimed particularly at medical students and clinicians interested in a scientific career. Young scientists were also given a platform at the JPC session organized by the Young Pancreas Club, where Laura Huhnold from CRU5002 SP4 presented her work in a talk.

In addition to basic research, the DPC also covers clinically relevant topics such as chronic pancreatitis, another research focus in Göttingen. Consequently, the working group led by Albrecht Neeße and Christoph Ammer-Herrmenau, close collaborators of the CRU5002s, delivered several presentations on the microbiome in the diseased pancreas.

Following another poster session including several presentations from Göttingen, this year’s DPC meeting concluded with another session on pancreatic cancer, during which Tiago De Oliveira (Conradi lab) presented soon to be published data from SP5 – stay tuned!

A special highlight was that three researchers from our CRU5002 were honored for their research - Dr. Denise Schlösser received a travel grant, and Joana Oschwald and Dr. Lennart Versemann each received an award for the best poster presentation. All three are members of the Hessmann lab and contribute to SP1 and CP1. Congratulations!

We returned to Göttingen with many new ideas, insights, and inspiration! Thanks to Freiburg, and we are already looking forward to Dresden 2027!
