Göttingen Cancer Patient Congress 2026

A cancer diagnosis often presents patients and their loved ones with significant and unexpected challenges. Reliable information about the disease, treatment, and support services can help them cope more effectively. In 2026, the Göttingen Comprehensive Cancer Center has worked once again with its experts at UMG and MHH, as well as with numerous partners, to put together a diverse program for the Göttinger Cancer Patient Congress.
The partners include regional and national self-help groups, the Lower Saxony Cancer Society, the Cancer Counseling Center of the Diakonie Göttingen, and the Contact, Information, and Counseling Center for Self-Help (KIBIS).
The topics covered current developments in cancer medicine, supportive measures from completementary medicine, psycho-oncology, psycho-social support, nutrition, and exercise. Also included were experiences of cancer patients and information on volunteer work in support groups.
CRU 5002 was represented by Elisabeth Hessmann and Günter Schneider. Professor Schneider chaired the panel discussion entitled “From Laboratory to Bedside: How Patients Benefit from Research”, in which Prof. Hessmann took part. CRU 5002 works towards improving our understanding of the genome dynamics underlying the emergence and development of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC or Pancreatic Cancer). Prof. Hessmann showcased the work of CRU 5002, its research findings, and the various avenues it pursues to translate its findings to directly benefit cancer patients.
